Sefton Searches Continue
A group of volunteers are monitoring the woodlands in Formby on a daily basis in order to try and minimise the effects of the current squirrlepox outbreak. Anyone who would like to join the team should contact Fiona on 0151 920 3769 for training. Visitors and local residents are asked to look out for sick squirrels and report them by phone on 0151 920 3769. Download a poster for more information.

Whinlatter Flagship Red Squirrel Reserve launches to the public on Sunday May 4th 2008! Come along from 11am - 3pm to join in with this famliy fun day and see what all the fuss is about! Dress for the weather as much of it is outdoors.
8th June - Garden Bonanza! Come and meet the squirrel team at the Cumbria Wildlife Trust's garden open day. A whole host of wildlife stalls will be in the beautiful gardens of CWT's head office at Plumgarths in Kendal from 10am. Follow this link for directions to get there.
14th June (Saturday) - Red Squirrel walk through Lowther Estate, near Penrith. Meet at 2pm by St Michael's Church, opposite Lowther Castle (grid ref NY 519 245) to join this guided walk. Look for feeding signs, dreys and of course red squirrels in this beautiful setting. This walk requires a moderate level of fitness due to some steep slopes.
21st September - Guided walk around Whinlatter Forest. Meet at the visitor centre at 9.30am to join this event and hopefully see some reds! Sturdy footwear and approriate clothing for the weather are recommended. You may also want to bring your binoculars and/or camera. This event is part of the Flora of the Fells Festival programme.
24th September - Guided walk around Whinfell Forest, Centre Parcs to look for squirrels and feeding sign. Meet 9.30am at the security gates of Centre Parcs. This is a gentle walk, suitable for all levels of fitness. This event is part of the Flora of the Fells Festival programme.

January 2008
Thursday 17th at 2.00pm. Join Philippa and Heather from the Northumberland Wildlife Trust for a walk around Ha’Penny Woods near Bedlington to find out more about red squirrels. The walk will be followed by a chat and something warm to drink in the Bank Top Pub.
Tuesday 22nd at 8.15am Join Philippa and Veronica Carnell from the Natural History Society of Northumberland for an early morning squirrel walk in Gosforth Park Nature Reserve - the only City red squirrel population in England. Find out about the red squirrel research in the Reserve and what is being done to ensure this population survives. Meet on the side road of Salters Lane (A189) close to the cottage.
February 2008
Thursday 14th at 7.30pm. Join Philippa and Mark for a talk about Red Squirrel Conservation and Local Action at the Jubilee Hall in Rothbury. Coffee and teas provided.
Wednesday 20th The Save our Squirrels Team will be at Alnwick Gardens for a day of red squirrel fun. Join us for guided walks, squirrel discovery activities and art and crafts at one of Northumberland's most beautiful visitor attractions.
